Qatar Airways Pet Policy: Cabin Exceptions, Checked Baggage or Cargo

Qatar Airways does not use one travel path for every animal. Cats, dogs, and birds may travel as checked baggage on eligible routes; larger, unaccompanied, or route-restricted animals may need Qatar Airways Cargo. Passenger-cabin exceptions are limited to falcons and qualifying service dogs under route and documentation rules. Check the current Qatar Airways animal policy and submit the airline’s request before buying a nonrefundable ticket.

The key question in the Qatar Airways pet policy is not whether the airline accepts pets in general, but whether it accepts this animal on every operating segment. Read Qatar Airways official pet policy with the flight numbers, aircraft or route restrictions, carrier measurements, and reservation deadline beside it.

Which Qatar Airways animal path applies to your trip?

An ordinary pet does not use the same path as a falcon or a trained service dog. Qatar Airways currently routes eligible domesticated dogs, cats and birds as checked baggage on most routes, while cargo becomes mandatory for listed size, route, connection and animal-status triggers. For the published cargo threshold, 75 kg is the combined weight of the animal or animals and carrier, while 300 cm is the carrier’s length plus width plus height. The cabin exceptions are narrower: falcons in Economy Class and qualifying service dogs on specified routes. None of those general rules confirms space or acceptance for a particular flight.

Domesticated dog, cat or bird
Most eligible Qatar Airways-operated routes
Checked baggage: Qatar lists these animals for checked-baggage travel on most routes when health, documentation, weight, size and local requirements are met. The published bands use the combined weight of the animal or animals and carrier, through 75 kg. Total carrier dimensions mean length plus width plus height; above 300 cm routes to cargo. A local station or country can impose a lower limit.

Cargo trigger
Non-domestic, travelling alone, combined animal(s) and carrier over 75 kg, L+W+H over 300 cm, or connecting with another airline
Qatar Airways Cargo: The current guide lists these as cargo cases and says live animals can use routes directly operated by Qatar Airways Cargo only. The 75 kg trigger is not animal weight alone, and the 300 cm trigger is not one side of the container. Confirm the route and station before buying the passenger ticket or kennel.

Ordinary pet or other non-service animal
Travel to or from Australia or New Zealand
Cargo for this ordinary/non-service path: Qatar places this rule inside its “Pets & other animals” section and attributes it to local regulations. The guide also says animals on this path travelling to Australia are transported only through Melbourne (MEL). This route rule does not apply to falcons or qualifying service dogs, which have separate route-specific cabin rules below. Government import and quarantine clearance remain separate checks.

A flight is operated by another airline
Stop and confirm the handoff: Qatar says it does not accept checked-baggage animals connecting from another airline. When the journey starts on Qatar and continues on another airline, the traveller must make the onward arrangements. The same guide lists airline connections as a cargo trigger, so do not assume a through-checked pet booking.

Falcon
Cabin request
Economy Class exception: One falcon per passenger may travel in Economy after confirmation and subject to cabin capacity. The consumer guide bars cabin carriage to or from Tunis; the request form also lists aircraft restrictions. Several falcons use the checked-baggage path.
Official carriage request
Trained service dog
Passenger with a disability
Route-specific cabin exception: The number allowed, the paperwork and whether the dog travels in the cabin or hold depend on the route. Use the current request form together with Article 18; do not extend one country’s cabin rule to another route.
Conditions of Carriage, Article 18
Emotional support dog
Does not separately qualify as a trained service dog
No service-dog cabin path: Qatar’s current consumer guide says emotional support dogs do not qualify as service dogs and are not accepted in the cabin. Ask Qatar to classify the animal under the ordinary baggage or cargo path for the exact route.

The request timing has two separate clocks

The main Qatar Airways pet guide tells travellers to submit an online request or contact the airline at least 48 hours before departure so it can check space and airline, transit and destination rules. The checked-baggage request form separately says it must be submitted no later than 24 hours before departure. Treat 48 hours as the airline’s advance-notice guidance and 24 hours as the form’s displayed last deadline, not as a promise that a late request will be processed or accepted.

After a passenger booking exists, the official carriage-of-pets form asks for the booking reference, animal details, weight and carrier information. A submitted form is still a request. Keep the airline’s route-specific confirmation with the flight numbers and operating carriers.

What the matrix cannot confirm

This matrix cannot reserve pet space, approve a service dog or falcon, certify a kennel, decide fitness to fly, clear a border, satisfy quarantine rules, or guarantee boarding. Qatar Airways may refuse or reroute an animal because of the operating segment, aircraft, local station, weather, breed, health, carrier, document or capacity condition. Government entry and transit rules must be checked separately even after the airline confirms carriage.

Method: The table normalizes the current Qatar Airways consumer pet guide, carriage request form, help route, Cargo office path and Article 18 into one route-and-animal schema. It preserves conflicts instead of inventing a universal rule: the guide’s 48-hour notice and the form’s 24-hour deadline are separate, and the multi-airline passages require itinerary-specific confirmation.
